Institute for Strategic Dialogue
Founded in 2006, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to safeguarding human rights and countering polarisation, extremism, hate and disinformation worldwide. ISD is headquartered in London, UK, with offices operating in Berlin, Washington D.C., Amman, and Paris.
ISD’s powerful work on disinformation revolves around the analysis of online campaigns that are targeting elections and policy agendas. By using state-of-the-art data analytics, OSINT techniques, and ethnographic research, ISD investigates attempts to undermine democracy and human rights through online manipulation and disinformation. In collaboration with international partners, ISD has monitored and analysed numerous international election cycles and has helped institutions as well as state actors to better understand and protect against the potential harms of targeted disinformation in projects like the Strong Cities Network and Digital Policy Lab.
ISD constantly provides civil society, media and policymakers with the results of its research, advocates for transparency with regards to platform accountability and regulation, and raises awareness of emerging and long-term disinformation threats and tactics that target democracies and democratic processes.
ISD works in partnership with international academia, civil society organisations, and governments as well as international bodies like the UN and European Commission.
ISD’s dedication to fighting disinformation is portrayed in their list of funders. It includes private donations but also relies on government bodies, philanthropic foundations, and businesses.
