Global Coalition for Tech Justice
The Global Coalition for Tech Justice is an international movement that brings together over 180 non-state actors from academia, media, civil society, and activism from all over the world to counter digital disinformation and democracy erosion. Its main goal is to foster tech company’s accountability by exposing the tech industry’s unequal treatment of users based on their location and the revenue potential associated with those regions.
As we experience the pivotal global election year of 2024, the movement is calling on tech companies, social media platforms in particular, to develop and publicise action plans outlining their strategies for safeguarding human rights and upholding electoral integrity. These plans should include details on how platforms will ensure oversight, transparency, and independence from both government influence and partisan pressures during elections. The demands stem from the belief that tech companies must prioritise investment in trust and safety measures based on the level of risk, rather than the size of their market.
The Global Coalition for Tech Justice aims to achieve these goals by putting public pressure on tech companies through a strong and common voice of civil society. To that end, the coalition also provides research, election monitoring as well as training for its members.
The Global Coalition for Tech Justice is an innovative initiative that harnesses the power of civil society to address largely unchecked profit motives of platforms that have far-reaching impacts on people globally. It is convened by Digital Action, a global movement-building organisation in tech and democracy.
